We ship our handmade Izumo washi from Shimane, Japan to customers around the world. This page explains how to order from outside Japan, how shipping and import duties work, and which countries we can currently ship to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ordering from our online shop<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You can order any item from our online shop, washi-shop.com<\/a>. The cart accepts overseas addresses and PayPal (you can pay by credit card through PayPal). The shop is in Japanese only, so please use your browser’s translation feature \u2014 or email us and we will gladly guide you through it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shipping is billed in two steps:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. At checkout<\/strong>, you pay the item price plus a \u00a5880 Japan-side handling fee (free for orders of \u00a510,000 and over).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. After your order<\/strong>, we email you a separate PayPal invoice for international EMS shipping, based on weight and destination. We pack and ship your order once the invoice is paid, and send you the tracking number.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    For a parcel up to 500 g, EMS costs about \u00a51,450 to East Asia, about \u00a53,150 to Europe, Canada and Oceania, and about \u00a53,900 to the United States.     A small selection of our washi is also available in our Etsy shop, IzumoWashiCrafts<\/a>. On Etsy you see the price in your own currency and pay for the item and shipping together at checkout, with no separate invoice. For the full range, please order from washi-shop.com as described above. We ship from the same workshop either way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Import duties<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    United States<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    All commercial parcels to the United States must now have import duties paid before shipping. We prepay the duties through Zonos, Japan Post’s official partner, and add them to your shipping invoice. You pay nothing on delivery.<\/strong> US parcels are sent by EMS only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Other countries<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Any import duties, taxes or customs handling fees in your country are paid by the recipient, as set by your local customs office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Countries we cannot ship to at the moment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Because of current Japan Post restrictions, we are unable to send parcels to Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Portugal<\/strong>. We will update this page when shipping resumes. We ship to other EU countries as usual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Delivery time<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    We usually ship within 3\u20135 business days after payment. EMS then takes about 1\u20132 weeks to arrive, and customs in some countries can add a few days. If you are ordering a gift for a specific date, please order early.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
